Technology

I. Description

This area of competency sets the IT Acquisition professional apart from our peers in other acquisition disciplines. This competency requires a candidate to demonstrate a working knowledge of the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) model, relationships between operating systems and applications and hardware platforms, different network types, critical network components, Internet protocol, data storage, Web Development and Network Security.

II. Functions to be performed

  1. Basic understanding of OSI model and how data moves through the network
  2. Working knowledge of data networks and critical components
  3. Working knowledge of Storage Systems and redundancies
  4. Working knowledge of Internet Protocol and addressing schema
  5. Impact of network security requirements on networks, what data can be protected, Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) encryption
  6. Primary operating systems and platforms associated with them
  7. Application software and associated platforms

III. Skills required

  1. Basic knowledge of data networks
  2. Knowledge of various hardware platforms and preferred use
  3. Knowledge of different operating systems and the hardware platforms designed to run them.
  4. Knowledge of various data storage schema and storage platforms associated with each
  5. Knowledge of major desktop, ERP and Web-based applications
  6. Knowledge of how the Internet works
