The test is a knowledge-based examination consisting of 200 multiple-choice and true/false questions, administered in a single four-hour timeframe. The exam may be taken at any location where there is a proctor available. Proctors may be persons already certified or a person from your organization who is senior to you and is willing to affirm that you comply with the exam procedures. Exams also may be taken at designated testing facilities (community colleges, adult learning centers, etc.) upon Caucus approval. Questions are based on the CTPE examination core competencies and the recommended reading materials. The exam covers five primary disciplines: procurement, legal, finance, information technology and contract management. Within these five disciplines, you will be tested on your knowledge of such areas as software licensing, equipment leasing, maintenance contracting, contract law, international procurement, negotiation strategy, etc. Please refer to the core competencies outline for a detailed list of the areas that the exam covers. You can access the most current suggested reading list here. CTPE Examination Dates You may apply for eligibility and take the exam any time.
